What is a tide clock?
A tide clock is a unique timepiece that shows the progression of the ocean's tides throughout the day. These clocks are particularly useful for people who enjoy coastal activities such as beach walks, fishing, or boating, as they provide essential information about when tides will be at their highest or lowest points. It is a more “user-friendly” version of a tide calendar - the singular hand on our tide clocks tells you immediately where the tide is right now and which direction it’s going.
How does a tide clock work?
If you live by the ocean or love spending time at the beach, you've likely noticed that the tides follow a specific pattern. A tide clock is a specialized timepiece that tracks the rising and falling of ocean tides. The tide clock is based on the cycle of the moon which is approximately 24 hours and 50 minutes daily. In that time there are 2 high and 2 low tides - the average time between high and low tide is 6 hours and 13 minutes.

How do I read a tide clock?
Instead of displaying the hours of the day, it shows the time remaining until the next high or low tide. For anyone living by the coast, it’s an invaluable tool for planning beach activities, from swimming and boating to walking the shoreline.
The mechanism behind tide clocks is simple yet brilliant. Since the moon controls the tides through its gravitational pull, the clock follows the moon's cycle, providing a constant update on the current tidal stage. This way, beach lovers can easily anticipate the best times for their favorite activities. Whether you're heading out for a walk during low tide or fishing at high tide, a tide clock takes the guesswork out of your schedule.
